2月3日 sign in the citysee the big Nissan sign at 7th ave right across Penn station. I like it! unfortunately, the sign is facing the opposite direction of the traffic, not good moneywise. But i guess they want to make sure the SUV in the sign is heading the right direction with the traffic. that's good. Rem goes back to Cornell!Rem once stayed in Cornell for a very short while from 1972 to 1973, before he went to the Institute for architecture and urban studies in new york city where he wrote his Delirious New York. I did not know Rem was studying in Cornell until I went to Cornell. I heard Professor Werner Goehner (cornell M.Arch. 1973) always likes to mention that Rem was his classmate,...Rem must did not enjoy his suburban life in gorgeous Ithaca.
http://www.news.cornell.edu/stories/Jan06/Arch.Koolhaas.lm.html The news reminds me to review some early schemes of new Milstein Hall. Let's do some Kao3 Gu3.
Barkow's two photomontages are two most important views for Rand Hall. When people approach Rand Hall from the main campus side either by driving or walking, the road gets a dramatic curve almost right in front of Rand Hall to pick up the tangent direction of the bridge. Of course the diagnal pedestrian walkway to slip into Arts Quad is great! Barkow has a decent scheme, but Steven Holl has a master scheme. It is a simple box with unbelievable complexities. I like the way he was explaning his concept: "The fact that the studio spaces are often lit up with students working at night reinforces a lantern/gateway aspect of the new architecture school on this site. " wow...:) "connecting views to the gorge and to the distant finger lakes due to the vertical stackability of the studios"
Let's see what OMA can come up with. (image courtesy of respective offices) 1月23日 profilewhy i can't edit my profile?
